AwwaRF Briefings

AwwaRF Presentations on Climate Change and Effects on Drinking Water Supply
November 07, 2007

Representatives from the Awwa Research Foundation (AwwaRF) briefed staff of U.S. Congress members and the media on research designed to examine how climate change is affecting the quantity and quality of the public’s drinking water supply. The presentations focused on recent and future studies that address the concerns of water utilities that extended changes in precipitation will lead (and have already led) to extended droughts. Climate change also is generating greater intensity of rainfall, which can increase erosion and flooding. In addition, excess rainfall volume impacts water storage and quality. The presentations were given by Robert C. Renner, AwwaRF Executive Director; David E. Rager, Chair, AwwaRF Board of Trustees; Patricia Mulroy, General Manager of the Southern Nevada Water Authority and Las Vegas Valley Water District; and Christopher Rayburn, AwwaRF Director of Research.
