AwwaRF 2008 Funded Research Projects

The Awwa Research Foundation (AwwaRF) Board of Trustees met January 25 and selected twenty-two projects for 2008 funding. Eighteen of these projects will be competitively procured via a Request for Proposals (RFP) process. A total of $7.35 million in AwwaRF funding was approved for the 2008 research program. This amount will be substantially leveraged through congressional funding, partnerships and in-kind support from researchers, resulting in an anticipated total research value of $20 million for 2008.

RFPs for the solicited research projects will be available by March 14. Proposals submitted in response to these RFPs will be due in either May or July, as specified in the RFP. Guidelines for 2008 solicited proposals will be available by March 1.

A total of $900,000 was appropriated for projects to be selected in 2008 through the Foundation’s Unsolicited research program. The focus of the Unsolicited Program is to promote basic and fundamental research based on original concepts and/or novel techniques. Unsolicited pre-proposals for 2008 funding consideration are due to the Foundation by February 1. Interested parties can obtain more information from the 2008 Unsolicited Proposal Guidelines.

Tailored Collaboration Program
$900,000 was approved for projects to be funded in 2008 through the Tailored Collaboration (TC) Program. Under the TC Program, a utility subscriber or group of subscribers can obtain matching funds for a research idea that they have developed. TC proposals are accepted throughout the year and are evaluated as they are received. Utility subscribers and others interested in the TC program can review current proposal guidelines.
